Actuality. The archaeological researches revealed the ruins of ancient
towns and settlements of the significant areas of Kazakhstan which are
impossible to restore the past of the country.
Otrar has played
an important role in the history of Kazakhstan and Central Asia. It
became famous as a birth place of Abu Nasr al Farabi, an outstanding
encyclopedic scientist. Otrar was the biggest centre of historical
region of Turkestan and also an important branch of the Great Silk
Road. The monuments of Otrar have been inscribed on the World Heritage
Tentative List of UNESCO.
Otrar, the history which covers the
whole middle Ages occupied its advantageous geographical position.
Being at the crossroads of caravan, trade and military strategic way,
and on the border of agricultural settlements and nomadic culture it
relatively reflected the middle Aged history of South Kazakhstan.
Aims and purposes of the research. The main purpose of the thesis study
is based on analysis and syntheses of all available sources of
reconstructing the history of an ancient Otrar. To achieve above
purpose it was solved to sum up all achievements in new excavations and
the above written sources, to generalize the whole complex material –
archaeological, written, epigraphic, numismatic, ethnologic, folklore
sources and etc. to consider the development of the town from the
moment of its foundation till destruction and disappearance paying
attention to climatic changes.
